Ativan

Ativan (lorazepam) is a prescription anti-anxiety medication intended for patients diagnosed with a number of related conditions. This medicine is supposed to be taken 2 to 3 times a day with some food or without. If you have any questions about how to take this drug – it’s best to talk to your health care provider first. The liquid form of this medicine is supposed to come with a special dropper to measure the exact amount of the drug you need. If you are not sure about how you are supposed to take the liquid form – your health care provider will help you decide, as this is very important for the success of your treatment. Being allergic to such medications as clorazepate, temazepam, flurazepam, chlordiazepoxide, diazepam, estazolam, triazolam, prazepam, oxazepam, alprazolam, or clonazepam is a contraindication for taking Ativan. Make sure you discuss other possibilities with your health care provider. If you take Ativan in spite of the history of an allergic reaction, the following symptoms are possible and need to be reported to your local emergency center: hives, difficulty breathing, itching, rash and swelling of your face, feet and hands. Your doctor is supposed to know your full medial history before prescribing Ativan, especially about such medical conditions as lung disease, seizures, liver disease, glaucoma, and heart disease. The medical condition mentioned may affect the success of your treatment and make Ativan less efficient. Smoking can also make Ativan less efficient. Make sure you avoid smoking throughout the entire period of your treatment to make sure you are getting all the benefits possible. Mild side effects are common and can include the following reactions: tiredness, weakness, nausea, changes in appetite, dizziness, dry mouth, diarrhea, and drowsiness. More serious effects are also possible and can include the following symptoms that need to be reported to your health care provider as soon as possible: irregular heartbeat, blurred vision, shuffling walk, changes in sex drive, constipation, restlessness, difficulty urinating, severe skin rash, yellowing of the skin or eyes, difficulty breathing, and fever. Never give this drug to children or people to whom it was not prescribed. Make sure to store Ativan in a tightly closed container in some place that is dark and cool (room temperature).
